[ laughter ] >> paul, thank you four invitation for lunch in iowa and new hampshire. but i will not stand by and watch the people of south carolina ignored. >> marco rubio standing up for sowrk which votes third in the nominating process after iowa and new hampshire. the election was just a month ago. the president has not yet been reinaugurated and rubio has already actually been to iowa where he acknowledged all the talk about him running and actually joked that he will not be a candidate for coach at iowa state, harris. >> okay. i'm glad he cleared that up. carl. i understand they got very serious and talked about the future of the republic party. >> they did. and that also refers to their own political future as white house candidate. rubio he spo

for 2016. you have the jack kemp forum tonight and both marco rubio and paul ryan are speakers. >> right. marco rubio is honored tonight. paul ryan was the honoree last year. yes, andrea. these are two guys without question are going to be in that 2016 presidential race barring some sort of unforeseen circumstance. they're both positioning themselves to lead the party. i'm interested to see what they talk about, because i think both of them -- paul ryan is talking about poverty. marco rubio is talking about education so not two typical what we would traditional republican issues, taxes and those sorts of things. this is an attempt by both men, i think, and a chance for both men to expand on what it means to be a member of the republican party and to try to broaden an appeal we saw in the 2012 election is just not broad enough particularly among hispanics. they are problems with women and young people. rubio is 41 and ryan is 42 years old who are leading a youth movement that the party hopes will change that appeal, correct their demographic problems and it starts even though the election

millions and his work. marco rubio, pat toomey. very conservative, anti-tax, anti-government purists in the mold of jim demint. however, he also backed in republican primaries a number of republican candidates who simply were not electable according to the republican establishment and the establishment was right. for example, remember christine o'donnell, i'm not a witch, from delaware. ken buck of colorado. and others. so those are some of the reasons why he definitely has ruffled many a-feather with the party leaders and i have to tell you first thing i saw when the senate republican leader mitch mcconnell released a statement today was making the point that demint had, quote, uncompromising service. didn't have to read between the lines too much to see there's a backhanded compliment. >> dana, what about bigger picture here and talking about the republican party aenl just talking about folks like ryan and rubio, let's say, part of maybe the next generation republicans. do you think that demint's brand of republicanism is falling out of favor with sort of the newer version of what
